This is the story of Phillip, the substitute teacher for a sex class and an ex army get suffering from PTSD, and Mayra, a young woman taking a class in order to learn how to give a blow job after her ex told her she sucked at both BJs and sex. After her ex informed her that he was breaking up with her because of her lack of sexual skills and determined to learn how to do better, Mayra signs up for a sex class to improve her skills. Phillip volunteers to teach the class after his friend's girlfriend gets very sick and is a huge hit with the ladies. After seeing Mayra, he tries to offer her private lessons because she was the only one that actually has interested him in a while and she's hot. Mayra flees after Phillip hits on her, as she's determined not to date another player, but she is so turned on by him that she regrets it. Deciding not to go back to the class, and after a restless night's sleep, Mayra goes to the gym and discovers that she had accidentally taken one of the dildos that had been handed out to practice with during class. When she leaves the gym and gets a tea, she starts looking for her keys, but ends up tripping and dumps out her purse in front of Phillip. This book touches on several things such as a woman's self-esteem about her sexuality and the trauma of recovering from PTSD, but also has great chemistry between characters too. 3.5-4 stars. I liked both Mayra and Phillip and their overall chemistry. Phillip is subbing for a class to teach women how to engage in more pleasure with their partners and Mayra is a student. While the connection is immediately obvious, Mayra's been burned by her ex so she thinks Phillip is a player, too, and doesn't want any part of that. Phillip goes out of his way to prove Mayra wrong and it's both sweet and sexy.
This book is HOT! Right from the start there are hormones and feelings. There is an immediate erotic attraction between Mayra and Phillip. You get a brief background update about why they are both careful when it comes to partners.
A sweet story where people come forward and learn to live and believe in themselves and each other. With the support of others you come a long way.
Penny Wylder shocked me a bit with her descriptions, but definitely in a positive way.
In a very short time she has embedded both PTSD, sex performance anxiety, bullying and self-esteem. All this in a sweet and sexy story.
Three stars due to the slightly quick story and thus it becomes a bit superficial and very short.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book for the author. As always Penny Wylder blows us away with another hot as hell story. I can never get enough of her work. This book was hot and steamy in all the right places. The characters are wonderful with out of this world chemistry. This is an absolute must read you won't want to miss out on.
A sexy and sassy tale by Penny Wylder that grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go until I had finished. Mayra and Phillip have an instant connection when they meet at a sex class he is substituting for. Being recently dumped by her ex-boyfriend, Mayra is keen for some up-skiling and Phillip is just the man to build up her confidence.
I loved Mayra and Phillip together. Strong and likeable characters with well-written dialogue and a sexy plot ensure this story is a winner. I read the book in one sitting and would recommend it highly. A great afternoon's read or snuggle up for a couple of hours and enjoy.
This is the first romance I've read that truly has an HEA. Other novels and novellas promise an HEA, and eventually they end there. But many so-called romance writers apparently have a need to build plot through character pain and angst. I find that many of those are as difficult an uphill climb as a legal brief. This novella by Penny Wylder is a simply sweet love story of two people who meet by chance under circumstances that lead to an HEA. There is character angst in this story, but it is neither mind-numbing nor heartbreaking. I recommend this to anyone living who wants a couple hours of relief from the political fearmongers fomenting worldwide angst these days.
The story has every thing you want in one neat package
-Handsome, damaged Hero
-Pretty, insecure heroine
-Missed communication leading to misunderstanding
-Good friend offering encouragement and support
-Mean-spirited, d*bag ex boyfriend
-Really hot s*xy episodes
-Really funny moments, when appropriate
The writing was clean and crisp, the plot moved smoothly, and the HEA and epilogs were really sweet. All that kept it from 5 stars was the length. More story development of the H's problems and how he was dealing with them, plus more background to demonstrate the h's internal strength (she was hurt by her ex, but she was not a pushover) would have made both characters more 3 dimensional and real.
Now, I've got to get and read the other stories in the series.
